Yeah, I'm listening to it while playing Half Life - good soundtrack album! Seriously nowhere near as "good" as any of the previous albums but then you could argue that it's just different. Very atmospheric. I use to say that every Tool song has a "calm spot," with this album it's the other way around - every song has an "agro spot". If this actually is the real thing, I'm a little disappointed, because it kinda sounds like just a few jams that don't really go anywhere. But hey, maybe i'm being too critical. What do you think?

we have a divergence of opinion on this one. i'm loving it. i agree though, it is very different. a lot of it sounds more contemplative than as anthemic as their previous work, and it's not as consistently heavy, that's for sure. but there were also a few things that disappointed me about lateralus - the absence of any overt sense of humour; i also thought maynard's vocals were too loud (i appreciated the style on aenima a lot more); i felt it was too drum-centric. all of these things seem to have been remedied for me on this album. the wings for marie songs really hit me on a personal level, too.

Actually, I thought that on AEnima the guitars were too loud and felt like the drums were suppressed alot - Undertow & Opiate have a more bass/drum mix and loud guitar is sacrificed. Yeah, perhaps on Lateralus drumming was a bit insane, if that's what you mean, but for me 10,000 Days seems to be void of "typical" somgs you can latch onto. Of course that's only a bad thing if that's all you want, so I'm going to give this one a lot more time to wash over me - little sprinkles every now and then.

My mate has started liking it heaps too.

I'm a self-important hipster who thinks it's a decoy.

Just jazzin'.

Like any Tool album- it gets better everytime you hear it.

Love, Lincoln.

Yeah, we can only hope its both a decoy and a ghost! When my mate and I had listened to Vicarious a couple of times we decided that it wasn't going to get any better. We might grow to like the album, but that doesn't mean it's going to get any better... know-what-I-mean?
